索引目录(归类为索引)是整个文档里关键词或词组的列表,按顺序排列,有助读者快速找到信息。通常索引位于书或文档的后面,按字母顺序列出了许多关键词或词组所出现的页码。 An alphabetical index (referred to as an index) is a list of keywords or phrases used throughout a document that, if listed in order, may help the reader find information quickly. Generally an index is found in the back of book or document and lists several keywords or phrases in alphabetical order with page numbers.

在创建索引前,必须创建某些索引条目。 Before you create an index, you must create some index entries.

  1. 高亮要添加到索引里的单词或词组,或将光标放置在这些单词或词组前。(如果要添加多个单词作为一个条目,还是高亮整个词组比较好。) Either highlight the word or phrase to add to the index or place the cursor at the beginning of the word or phrase. (If you want to add multiple words as one entry it will generally be better to highlight the entire phrase.)
  2. 插入>目录>条目显示如下对话框。可以接受条目框里显示的单词或词组,或改为你想要的。如果将光标放在单词前,点条目文本框时将在文本框里插入该单词。 Click Insert > Indexes and Tables > Entry to display a dialog box similar to that shown below. You can accept the word or phrase shown in the Entry box or change it to whatever you want. If you placed the cursor at the beginning of a word, clicking on the Entry text box inserts the word into the text box.
  3. 插入索引条目 Inserting an index entry.
  4. 插入创建条目。 Click Insert to create the entry.
  5. 无需关闭对话框,就可创建多个条目。对每一个这样做: You can create multiple entries without closing the dialog box. For each one:
    • 点文档里要索引的位置。 Click at the location in the document that you want to index.
    • 再点一次对话框。 Click again on the dialog box.
    • 按需修改条目,点插入 Change the entry if needed, and click Insert.
  6. 对条目满意后,点关闭 When you are satisfied with the entries, click Close.
Image:documentation_note.png选择的单词或词组添加进索引后,会显示字段阴影(见工具>选项>OpenOffice.org>外观>文本文档>字段背景颜色),文本显示灰色背景。索引条目的文本与文档里的其他文本不同,由灰色小矩形标记。
  If field shading is active (see Tools > Options > OpenOffice.org> Appearance > Text Document > Field shadings), when a selected word or phrase has been added to the index, it is shown in the text with a gray background. Index entries whose text is different from the text in the document are marked by a small gray rectangle.

[编辑] 快速创建索引目录 Creating an alphabetic index quickly

有了索引条目后就可以创建索引了。 Now that there are index entries, you can create the index.

虽然在Writer里可以自定义索引,但大部分时间只需要很少的选择 。快速创建索引: Although indexes can be customized extensively in Writer, most of the time you will need to make only a few choices. To create an index quickly:

  1. 将光标放在要添加索引的地方,点插入>目录>目录 Place the cursor where you want to add the index and click Insert > Indexes and Tables > Indexes and Tables.
  2. 在插入目录对话框的类型框里,选择索引目录 In the Type box on the Index/Table page of the Insert Index/Table dialog box, select Alphabetical Index.
  3. 选项栏里,不勾选区分字母大小写检查框。 In the Options section, you may want to uncheck the Case sensitive checkbox.
  4. 确定 Click OK.

添加、删除或修改索引条目的文本后,需要更新索引。Writer不自动更新索引。可以按照更新一个目录里的步骤来更新索引。 If you add, delete, or change the text of index entries, you need to update the index. Writer does not update an index automatically. To do this, follow the steps outlined in Updating a table of contents.
